I have a similar problem, but it's because it finds my sound card in use :|. I just gave up and use xmms for cd playing.

I have recently maade two installations o Maandriva 2006 (Boxed set). For user 500 aaand 501, there is no sound "splash" while KDE is setting up, at the end of KDE settup I get a "Kscd - Error" window as follows:

"CD-ROM read or access error (or no audio disc in drive).
Please make sure you have access permissions to:
/dev/hdb"

No sound functions for these users at any time.

I have checked permissions every way I could think of, and found no caauxe. SUing to root has the same type of problem, eveen from the space of users 502 and 503, but both of those users have no problem with sound or Cdrom.

The prior drive, running MDK 9i.1 still runs OK with no sound problem
when I put it back in this machine. Another install using a third HD
gives me almost the same problem. The only difference noted is that
only user 503 works with sound.

I have tried searching for a problem of this type, but no luck.

Aany help wwill be much appreciated.
