It sounds to me as if you mismatched user ids between two systems. Why do you
refer to the users by their numbers? When you list the directory, do the
owners' names appear or do you just see the numbers?
If so, then you need to change the ownership of files and directories so that
the names show instead.
If you are using a /home directory from an earlier system, another thing you
may want to try is to rename the $HOME/.kde directory to something else, and
delete all temporary files, directories and FIFOs. Also, if xmms doesn't
work, remove the .xmms directory.
