Hi
I am a windows user considering ways to use my work computer rather than
having to buy a new one for home use. I am looking at a USB Hard-disk which
comes pre-loaded with Mandriva Linux 2005 LE by LaCie
(http://www.lacie.com/ie/products/product.htm?pid=10670) to solve my problem
but I need to know if Mandriva can use my IBM ThinkPad T42's Wireless LAN
card to connect to my home network and if so does it have support for
WPA-PSK / TKIP encryption?
My thanks in advance for any help,
Andoni.
Hi Andoni,
It all depends on what wireless LAN card your IBM ThinkPad T42 has. This
is something that I have just spent time playing with and configuring on
an IBM desktop. (I use a Linksys WPM54G card.)
Something that works just fine for me (now!) is ndiswrapper. In essence,
this works by 'wrapping' itself around the Windows NDIS API within the
Linux kernel. Or in lay terms - it uses the Windows (.inf) driver as
though it is in Windows.
Check it out here (you can also see supported cards):

I didn't use the version that came with the Mandriva (2006.0)
distribution. I used the latest version available from this site (1.10).
Hope this helps. Cheers, Andy
