sounds more like a problem initializing your device. Sometimes removing and 
re-inserting the device helps.

Inserting the device should automagically create a "removable" entry 
in /etc/fstab and thus the icon in devices. If you can see /mnt/removable and 
read it's contents in konq, it apparently is getting mounted and ergo should 
be in the devices folder. You can manually unmount it with 
"umount /mnt/removable" in an xterm or konsole before removing it as a quick 
solution.

BTW  When the device is removed is removed (and unmounted) the /mnt/removable 
entry should have gone too. Refresh the konq window to be sure.
