Using more than one app is arts - unless you have s aoundcard that
multiplexes by using the hardware. My soundblaster live can do this.

More than one user is something completely different because it is a
security thing (not KDE)
The reason it does not work is because the distribution disallows it.
- I solved his i believe by adding everyone to the 'audio' group
- In SuSE btw i had to allow this by changing the permissions in the
file /etc/logindevperm

It works for my by using alsa (and not arts)

Mandriva! not KDE!!!
In KDE's control centre (Look and feel - system notifications) restore
the launch sound to KDE's default. I hate this mandriva sound to. It is
also as annoying as kat itself! And you can pick your own sound. For
instance the windows startup sound (yuck!!)

I normally also disable that ugly big mouseovers in the kicker (look and
feel -> panels -> somewhere in the 4th tab). Somwhere there you can also
add konqueror's profiles and the printer system to the menu.
And i uplift the amount of virtual desktops.
