http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/Filesystems/Mounting_smbfs_Shares_Permanently.html
says do this
smbmount //servername/sharename /mountdirectory -o username=mywindowsusername,password=mywindowspassword
- so I guess I misunderstood your post - I take it your machine is NODE4
In other words, please ignore my post :-)

Just
guessing but you don't have a machine name specified anywhere
shouldn't the mount path refer to your machine?
e.g. (not sure of syntax)
smbmount //NODE4/homes localhost://home/joehill/mnt/NODE4/homes
or the correct name for your machine?
The man page for smbmount doesn't really say anything about this
so try a google on smbmount and see if you can find something.

I've managed to get to the point where I've
set up an smb password, added my
username to /etc/samba/smbpasswd, set the password, and configured
smb.conf
like so:
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = yes
writable = yes
under share definitions.
LinNeighbourhood can now see the 'homes' dir as shared out, but when I
try to
mount my home dir, I get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ smbmount //NODE4/homes
/home/joehill/mnt/NODE4/homes/
Password:
9064: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnosuchshare (You specified an
invalid
share name) SMB connection failed
So what *is* the share name?
