No firewall running on any of my boxen, that's taken care of elsewhere (the
gateway)

I was gonna say, don't even mention smb4k. I messed with that during an earlier
install and it was a bloody mess. Just like everything KDE. I'd rather just use
scp (which gives me absolutely no problem at all, which leads *away* from
thinking it's a perms issue.

It's my own home dir (on the remote machine). I know they say '90% of all Linux
problems are to do with perms', but I'm the same user on both machines.

It used to be so easy with the Samba Wizard. Just check 'share out users home
dirs', and you were done. Now that's not even an option.
