As with sound, video and pdf previews ..... it's a lot of bloat and considering the power of the average PC this might be handled a little different IMO. Then again it's a simple trade off: either a lot of HD usage in the long term or unneeded CPU usage, which can suck on a daily basis. If you're backing up your "/home" on a separate partition and keeping it untouched during all upgrades it will tend to grow though.
