If in doubt use the framebuffer driver ....after which you at least have an 
X-server running.
XOrg's own generic ATI drivers do OK it's the propietary stuff that's killing 
X.

Complain at ATI so's they deliver better (or at least updated) drivers. If 
Nvidea can keep up, so can they.
Problem is that most of those built-ins use the (cheap) Ati chips but not the 
drivers. They use self-modified ones, so it becomes a mainboard problem i.e. 
different manufacturor. The same problems you tend to get with laptops if 
youre not carefull when buying.

Stay away from built-in's if you can. Makes it easier to upgrade specific 
parts, too.
