I have a nvidia pcie card. When you say a clean install was that re-formatting the home partition?

Just to give some feed back:
Will not set up a dual boot properly;
Tried this on a Dell270 at work a few times, I could boot into linux but
when I tried to boot into windows I would get a message about starting
windows 95 and then drop into a "a" prompt. I put 2006 back on and it
dual boots fine.

Desktop messed up (no icons etc.);
On a install over 2006 but not formatting the home partition using kde
the desktop and menus were all messed up and when I rebooted I had no
task bar or desktop icons. I put 2006 back on it and when had that going
smooth I renamed the .kde folder before rebooting and doing the 2007
install again. Seemed to work OK but had to do a lot of tweaking on the
desktop settings. This was on a amd athelon with a nevidia gforce 128
video card.

Still running 2007 on the test box but am real nerves about putting it
on, 64 bit, my main box, a x86_64 opteron.

Cannot get java or flash to work;
Still working on this but it seems like the path is messed up.
I installed on a x86-64 sempron and it installed fine. Only, the tv card
would not work no matter what I did. On the 32bit version the card works
on the first boot. So, I think there are some files missing, like, a
v4l2 file of some sort. Anyway if you don't have a tv card and you do
have an ati video card such as mine, Radeon 9550, then it seems like it
works dandy. Oh, it was a clean install by the way, with the old .kde
saved on a flash drive and migrated in after install. HTH

Yes, I did a backup of everything I wanted to save in /home to an external drive and then formatted the entire Linux portion of the drive.
