One day, we received a computer from one of our retailers with the problem description "keyboard does not work" So, of course, the first thing I did was replace the keyboard...DUH right??? still no go. boots fine, gets to OS prompt fine. can't type anything. (DOS 6.22/Win 3.11 days) and get this.....no BIOS errors ever. just keyboard not working so, if it's not the keyboard...gotta be the motherboard. that's what the keyboard plugs into after all. 1 replacement motherboard later....STILL no go. Anyway, after 3 hours of hair tearing, replacing almost every single component in the case (including the power supply) and still having no luck, I built up the computer on the bench next to the case. Worked perfectly. So, it's a CASE problem?????????? Eventually found that the "keyboard lock" had been turned. In those days, the case had a keyboard lock with a real KEY. but no indication on the case which was the "locked" position and which was the "unlocked". Of course when putting everything back into the case, I was attaching all the wires as well, including the one which went to the keyboard lock. Feeling very embarrassed after spending 3 hours on this, I phoned our retailer..Also a technician. "Hi Dave, that computer you sent up with the keyboard problem you sent up. It's fixed. I'm really embarrassed it took me 3 hours to find it was the keyboard lock." "You think you're embarrassed....I spent 3 days on it before giving up and sending it to you!"
