I've had something similar on x86_64 hardware under 2007.0.

Just a wild stab, but try reducing the linespeed to the modem
progressively.

On my desktop system running a stock kernel I cannot connect to the
external modem at anything higher than 38400 but on my laptop running
32-bit 2007.0 it works fine.

One suggestion given to me was to install kernel-linus from contrib and
while the modem worked correctly a few other things got broken.

Another thing you could check is is that your gateway= address is
correct.

Thanks.. I decided to reinstall last night and put 32bit on.. Still didnt fix my problem. Then I go try it again tonight, and the connection disappeared for some reason. So I remade it and it works now for some reason.. weird..... Thanks..
