I've experienced the "wavy" image syndrome in X and Windows. From what I 
noticed is that it comes from a refresh rate that is slightly higher than 
the monitor likes. Try reducing it a notch or two. If you have the 
monitor's spec sheet or manual, look-up the refresh rates for the required 
resolution.
