Have you tried X 4.1.0 with this card? You just need to specify the
"mga" driver and it will identify your card and use it if it is
supported.
The man pages for the driver "man mga", should give you additional
options if needed. The Web site of the XFree86 project has more
information on the video cards supported.
If your card is really old, you may want to use XF86 3.3.6.
Finally, running the X server configured as a framebuffer may give you
higher resolutions. Read the appropriate HOWTOs.
