i just recently got slackware 8.0 and with it came Xfree86 4.1.0

i;m having alot of trouble with X

the only possible way i can get it to run is to not specify my video card and just give the amount of memory:
when i do this it runs at about 200, 200 resolution btw my mouse and my keyboard both work well here its just everything is way too big i get about the top quarter of the settings thing (with all the different options for desktop, theme, etc...)

i have run superprobe and it says i have a chips and technologies 65554 and the winbook specs on their website say that
but if i enter that in for X it just boots to a black screen for abit then dumps me back onto the command prompt with the error of "Caught signal 11, server aborting" i have tried making the horisontal sync rates and vertical sync rates higher (will that do anything?)

any help would be greatly appreciated as i can really work in Gnome (what i chose for a manager) if the programs, favorites, and settings are all scruntched up and about a 10th of the screen when i try to load gnome

thanks
