Yeah, RH 6.x and later use xfs by default. Nix this, unless you really need it. Unless you know which FontPath entries you need, use the defaults. (the defaults are bad, though, if you add your own fonts.) also, try adding the freetype (or xft, but NEVER, EVER both) module (this adds TrueType support. X doesn't ship with any TT fonts by default, but AFAIK, RedHat has a few)

Hi possibly a dumb solution: comment out unix/:7100 check whether you gave a list of font path which did not start with a fixed font (it must start with fixed fonts, best is no font path let the defaults take care of themselves) Possibly add module "speedo" and "type1" in the module section (whatch out the spelling -no caps-) hope that helps Lionel --- Christophe BAUDRY <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello, > > I have the following error when i load : > startx > ---------------------------------------------------------------- > Could not init font path element unix/:7100, > removing from list! > > Fatal server error: > could not open default font 'fixed' > ---------------------------------------------------------------- > > I have a look on redhat.buzilla, This "bug" was > corrected with the latest > version. > > Mine Is 4.0.3-5 with redhat 7.1 > > What can i do to correct this error and have success > with startx. > > Thanks > > Christophe > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > _______________________________________________ > Newbie mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: > http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
