Hi,

I'm new to the list, and to Linux in general, and I have the following
problem.

I installed Debian 2.2 then upgraded to the newest distribution to get
support for my video card. Everything was working fine, Xwindows was
humming along, and I could boot to either Linux or win me at
startup. Then during my next windows session, Norton AntiVirus determined
that my boot record had been corrupted and "fixed" it. This has led to
the current situation where I can only boot to windows. I have the rescue
cd from my original installation of Debian, but when I try to boot using
linux root=dev/hda6 (the location of my linux partition) it locks up after
displaying a message about a "Kernel panic." So basically, I'm stuck in
windows for the moment, and would like to know if there is a way I can get
a command line from which i can re-run lilo, which i presume will fix the
problem, or some other solution that doesn't involve my re-installing and
having to go through all the problems I went through to get this working
in the first place.

Thanks much,

Matt
