No, the card is not broken. X is. Upgrade to XFree86 4.x (pref. 4.1.0) to fix this (should be in the ports tree, if not, cvsup/cvs the new ports tree). Also, this should enable DRI (definitely will on Linux. It's supposed to work in FreeBSD, but I've never tested it.) -----Original Message----- From: Rob Lahaye [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 3:24 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Newbie]ATI Rage 128: stray text on root window
Hi, I have ATI Rage 128, running XFree 3.3.6 on FreeBSD PC. Lines that should appear in a window (xterm, netscape etc.), these lines appear every now and then randomly on the root background window. When I have Option "no_accel" in the Device section of XF86Config, the problem is solved. However, this makes it very slow. (See below for the "X -probeonly" output). Any idea what this means? Why is there a problem when I use the graphics-card's acceleration? Is the card broken? Anything else I can do to solve or analyze this problem? Thanks for help and advice, Rob.
