Yes, the 64MB DDR would work. But, also, the 8500 is supported by the CVS
version of XFree86. For now, only 2D and Xv work, but DRI is in progress
(the 8500 isn't that different from the classic, and the 7500 is already
doing DRI in the CVS branch).

So, in short:

Radeon Classic (all cards) work in 4.1.0 and later (support is present, but,
IMHO pathetic in 4.0.3)
Radeon VE is crippled, but works in 4.1.0 (albeit in an ugly manner), and
works perfectly in CVS and 4.2 (or will, once 4.2 is released).
Radeon 7500 is fully supported in CVS X, thus will work in 4.2
Radeon 8500 is partially supported (2D, Xv) in CVS, should have 3D by the
time 4.2 is released.

Subject: [Newbie]Question about model of the Ati Radeon

Hi,

I bought the 8500 ATI Radeon video card, which is not
supported be XFree 4.1. I would like th change it with another
Ati Radeon. But now I want to be sure of my choice. So my
question is simple: Which Ati Radeon card is supported by
XFree 4.1, and will be supported in 4.2? In 2D and in 3D
acceleration.

Is the ATI Radeon 64Mo DDR Ok?

Thanks in advance

Michal
