Folks,
I have an old laptop on which I am trying to get X to work. So far, I have managed to install Slack 8.0 on the system. Coming to the issue of X, it looks like the chipset on the laptop is not supported by the newer version of Xfree86, which is 4.1.0. Instead this is supported by Xfree86 3.3.6. The version of X installed with Slackware 8.0 comes with 4.1.0. The laptop configuration is as follows: Compaq LTE 5400 Pentium 150, 80MB RAM, 2.1GB HDD, Cirrus Logic Adapter GD7543. The system has 1 MB of Video RAM. I tried to install X 3.3.6 on this system after reading the documentation given on the site, but while running the first install script, "sh preinst.sh", there are some messages like ": identifier expected". This message is repeated three times, then the script checks to see what version of the linker do I have. Any pointers suggesting how do I go about installing 3.3.6 on this laptop would be greatly helpful. The main aim is to get KDE to run on the system, so the next step would be to install the version of KDE that comes with Slackware 8.0. Thanks in advance, Samarth _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
