Hello,
My name is Cary and I am new to Linux and this list. I installed R.H. 7.1
and all went well accept for X-Windows. Apparently for my video card I need
to install XF86_SVGA X Server in order to get it to work. I downloaded the
all the various XFree86 binaries so I would make sure I had the right one
and then I found the Xinstall.sh binary, but I have no clue how to use it to
tell me the proper set of binaries I need to use. When I try to run it from
a diskette I get this error: cannot execute binary file. I am trying to run
it from the diskette like this sh /dev/fd0 Xinstall.sh -check. I sure would
like to know how to get this all working. When I tried to install it during
the course of the normal RH 7.1 installation I would see the text login
prompt appear briefly and then I would just get a black screen. I had to use
the reset button on my computer to get out of it. I could not go to any
other virtual terminals. In the documentation that came with my main board
it listed as an X Server for my video card. (ref. S3 Pro Savage-K133). I
just do not have any idea how to copy the files from the CD to the
appropriate directory.
TIA,
Cary Pembleton
