Hi,
In the original posting (not from me) someone wished
to be able to switch resolution (often people wishing
to run games requiring a lower resolution)...
In my case, I have an old notebook with a 800x600
screen. When I dock the notebook, my workstation has a
much hicher resolution I select then 1024x768 (limited
by the graphic memory of the notebook rather than by
the monitor)
without specifying a virtual resolution, X default to
a "virtual" resolution which is the highest resolution
specified in the mode line. When one switches the
resolution down to something lower (using Ctrl Alt -
for instance) then one gets only part of the desktop
displayed.
The trick, as I mentionned, can be to have more than
one XF86Config and to use two user-ids one for the
higher resolution the other for the lower one.
However, I find that solution less than elegant to say
the least...
