I have the same problem with the exact same card, cofig. ,etc. I do not
think there is much you can do. I believe it has to do with the properties
of the XFree86_SVGA X server. I have noticed that after running
Xconfigurator and choosing only one resolution and color depth that it is
less of a problem.

Subject: [Newbie]video output level

Hello, this sounds like a dumb newbie question, so here goes ...

Can anyone explain why I get higher output
and so higher monitor brightness from a video card when
using XFree86, compared with the same PC/card/monitor
when using NT or DOS, or Linux in native non-X mode.
(1.0 V p-p compared with 0.65 V p-p).

And what I can do about it (to avoid twiddling monitor
buttons on switching o/s on a dual boot machine) ?

The video card is nVidia Corporation|Riva TNT2 Model 64,
the XFree86 driver is SVGA, with XFree86 3.3.6 on RedHat 6.2,
but also I get the same effect with 4.0.3 on RedHat 7.1.

Thanks for any suggestions.
