Hey you know what the trick was. I found a couple of people on the Linux 
on Laptops site that had said to add the line VideoRam 8192 into the Device 
section of the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 directory. Well I fired up VI my 
favorite text editor inserted the line and guess what ....... X started up 
beautifully. I wish I had their email address cause I would thank them for 
their ability to figure this out!
