Hello

I run SuSE 7.1 on a Dell Latitude. Xfree86 4.0.something was working well
on the laptop standalone i.e. the LCD display was great. However, when
docked
xfree86 would not start on the external monitor.

I upgraded to 4.1.0 and suddenly xfree86 worked on the external monitor when
docked. This surprised me - the reason I upgraded is because I had heard of,
and thought I would need, an option that could be added to the config file
under 4.1.0 to enable xfree86 to 'follow' BIOS in terms of which monitor to
use (the syntax was something like Option "Display" "BIOS").

The thing is, I have at no point told xfree86 what my external monitor is.
Should I? Currently the border round the edge of the display is much too
thick.
If I tell xfree86 about my external monitor presumably it will add a new
Monitor section to my config. Will it also update the screen section(s) so
that I can obtain optimum performance (usage of screen real estate)? Will
xfree86 automatically know which Monitor is active?

Thanks in advance

Henry
