The delete key on my keyboard is supposed to do a backspace-erase. It works fine on the command line of the OSX Terminal application and on the command line of an Xfree86 xterm. If I go into my favorite editor from the OSX Terminal, the delete key continues to behave properly, but if I go into that same editor from the Xfree86 command line, the delete key is dead. I am not enough of a Unix person to know where to fix this problem. I suspect it may be a shell problem. I tried the shotgun approach of putting a stty intr ^C erase "^?" in every place I thought it might make a difference (.login, .cshrc. xinitrc, etc....to no avail.
