I switched to XFree86 server from XF86_SVGA to try out the v4.1.0 drivers for s3virge mx+, which is the detected card on my Toshiba Tecra 780DVD laptop w/FH7.2 running and both v3.3.6-42 and v4.1.0-3 installed. It all works great in both depth 16 and depth 24, which is good because the old XF86_SVGA server and drivers didn't seem to work w/depth 24.
However, there is one problem. When I reboot my system and run XFree86 (by setting my soft link to XFree86), I get the console blank and no response at all from keyboard that I can detect, after I exit from my gnome session to go back to console. I have to hit the power button and reboot "unclean" to get back to the console prompt. If I go back to v3.3.6, i.e. set a soft link back to XF86_SVGA, and run startx once w/the 3.3.6 drivers, I can then set the link back to XFree86 and all is well including exiting from gnome session back to text console. However, if I reboot the system, the problem comes back. Any clues as to what can be causing this or how to diagnose this?
