Usually this happens when your card is not recognised. You could try running Xconfigure if you have it, or (if you have 4.x.x) XFree86 -configure or the equivalent (don't know the name) for 3.3.6. - (watch out that XFree86 -configure usually generates /root/XF86Config.new which must be renamed and moved to /etc/X11...) Your log was not posted so it is difficult to know what you have. If the XF86Config[-4] generated still does not give you satisfaction you can always try hacking the XF86Config[-4] file (it should be in /etc/X11 for most distributions) I would first try driver "vesa" for 4.x.x or "SVGA" for 3.3.6 in the graphic device section. good luck Lionel --- Andy Wong <> wrote: > 320X300 ?? > > got it to work but it does not go into defualt 640X 480 > > instead 320X300....read it in Xfree.0.log > > ???? > > > why > > using S3trio64 with 512Kb onboard ram?! that is the only config i can get > Xwin to wokr even though it is 1mb onboard? > > This is what Xconfigurator probed: > 2 the MAXColor S3 Trio64V+ > 8bit mode in 640x480 > IBM 2248 monitor > > wierd... > _______________________________________________ > Newbie mailing list > > *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: > http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
