hello Laurie,
i think i had the same problem. First i thought it was normal with vesa,
but then i used i hacked sis driver for X4.1
with the same result (could not go back to console mode). My problem
dissapeared, magicly, when i used a 2.2.18 kernel. before i was using
2.4.x. I still dont know the reason but not it seem to work properly.
