After having just installed my ATI Xpert 2000 AGP card, I was pleased
to see the screen for blackbox come up. The resolution and color depth
were superb. However, I'm unable to execute certain commands, rxvt and
xterm, because I have no .Xauthority file in my home directory. How do you
create one of these files?
        I am starting X from the console using startx. After redirecting the
error output to a file, I found this message;

rxvt: can't open psuedo-tty
rxvt: aborting
cat: /home/ipt//.Xauthority: no such file or directory

        The command xauth looks promising as a way to create this file, but I
can't remember having to do this in the past. I have just upgraded to
4.1.0 as suggested.  I did so in the following manner;

download binaries:
Xinstall.sh extract Xbin Xlib Xman Xdoc Xfnts Xfenc Xetc Xvar Xserv Xmod
Xvbf Xprog Xfsrv Xnest Xprt Xf100 Xfscl Xhtml

install using:
sh Xinstall.sh

ran XFree86 -configure
note: This ran flawlessly :)

        I installed over top of my old XFree86 Version 3.3.6 installation as
instructed by the Installation document. When asked if I wanted to
overwrite existing configuration files I chose no.

Thanks in advance for any help.
