I reinstalled Version 4.1.0, this time letting the install overwrite
all the previous configuration files. I hadn't changed any of them anyway.
Once again I was not able to get an xterm or rxvt to come up.
After getting xdm to come up on boot, I was able to generate an
.Xauthority file as well as an .ICEauthority file. I, however, can still
not bring up an xterm or an rxvt window. The error I get is as follows

rxvt: can't open pseudo-tty

I really don't know what to try next. I had at least a minimal X
running using Version 3.3.6. I could execute xterms with that Version.
