it could be something on the motherboard itself that's causing the
problem. I've had that happen a couple of times.
is the machine cool enough? is the case hot to the touch? try
running with the cover off for a while, and see if that makes a difference.
I've seen that too.

Linux uses hardware harder and differently than Windows. lots of hardware
that's broken by design, will work fine under windows; because that's what
the manufacturer tested. there's a lot of different ways to interpret
specifications, tho; they might have chosen a more 'creative' way of doing
things, than they should have.
