here's a guess: do 'set|grep PATH'; see if /usr/X11R6/bin (or /usr/bin/X11, symlinked to /usr/X11R6/bin) is in there. look in /usr/X11R6/bin, see if there's an 'X' there. should be a symlink to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xwrapper.
