Does XFree86 support the ATI All-in-Wonder 128 video board? I think that it does because of the section "Driver status for XFree86 : ATI" indicates that rel 4.1.0 has accelerated support for the Rage 128 chip. The chipset is the "ATI Rage 128 RF (AGP)" (Chip ID=0x5248). When I install Red Hat 7.2, the program indicates that everything is installed correctly; however, when I run startx, Gnome seems to boot up and gives all indications that it will run (shows that it is loading a bunch of items) then it becomes very slow and even after 5 minutes it is still loading the task bar and desktop icons.
Xconfigurator PCI probing finds the following: PCI entry : ATI ! Rage 128 RF X Server : XF86_SVGA XFree 4 Driver: r128 The small box asking can you see this message has an automatic time-out after 9 then 8 then 7seconds etc. I can see this message, but there is no place to respond yes. Also, there is approx 10 seconds between the display of each message including the reduction in number of seconds. This is all confusing, burt the major problem is that it runs extremely slow so that I even have to use the ctrl-alt backspace to get out of X windows. Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this if indeed the video board is supported in XFree86 rel 4.1.0. Thank you. ....
