is the stock still worth anything? What sort of leverage did you use
on Ransom Love to get him to sell? what are you going to do with the DR-DOS
and SCO properties?
sorry. couldn't resist. :)
Caldera is just a _distribution_ of linux. just one company's collection of
programs (which are often otherwise freely available); bundled together with
a nice installer. If you buy it in the store you get a CD and a manual too.
so what actually matters is the programs you're using. most notably in this
case, what version of XFree86 does your distribuition include?

how are you configuring X? with one of Caldera's tools, or with the
builtin tools? are you doing this as part of the install process, or do you
have the system installed & running in text mode?
here's the short version:
1. get XFree86 4.1.0 (best if you can find it on your distribution's FTP
site).
2. as root, do 'XFree86 -configure'
3. test the autogenerated configuration with 'XFree86 -xf86config
/root/XF86Config.new'. it should display a bare X screen (nothing but a
cursor and a gray crosshatch background).
4. if that worked; try moving your /root/XF86Config.new file to
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4, where X normally looks for it.
mind you, there are a lot of problems this won't solve. :)
read the man pages for 'X' and 'XFree86' and 'XF86Config'. those will help
you a lot. ('man X', 'man XFree86', etc.)

before we can tell what you're doing wrong, we need to know more
about what you're doing in the first place. we aren't psychics. :)
