I accidentally left a DVD in when my linux machine
booted up, with the result that my linux screen is
now completely screwed up (screen split up into
several incoherent parts, with lines and snow;
also X-windows doesn't seem to know where the
mouse pointer is).

I eventually logged into linux using text-mode
(no X-graphics) and found that even in text mode
the screen is vertically compressed. I tried changing
the XF86Config file, I tried re-downloading and
re-installing a new X-server (version 4.1.0). Still no
luck.

Can someone please help me recover my beloved
gnome screen and X-windows system.

I am running RH6.2, and Xinstall.sh reports that
my libc is 6.1.3 (although there is no binary
listed in the Xfree86.org site for glibc=6.1.3).

Thanks very much,

Arvind
