In the archives I ran across the message below. I was having the exact same problem, and I think it may be common, so I thought I'd post what I found (at <http://macosx.forked.net/faq.html#6>) that worked for me. I tweaked the XDarwin preference file (you can use either PrefEdit or PropertyListEditor) by adding fields for UseKeymappingFile and KeymappingFile and set each value to /System/Library/Keyboards/USA.keymapping This stabilized XDarwin and allowed me to get into X11. Mileage may vary
