The config file you sent is the one for 3.3.6 There should be a XF86Config-4 in the 
same directory
(/etc/X11), this is the one which 4.x.x will use if there is none then your problem 
comes probably
from trying to run X 4.0.1 with a XF86Config formated for 3.3.6
