1. with a LCD screen most important is the resolution for which your screen is built (i.e. you cannot get any higher resolution than what it's built for, and for any lower resolution the image is lousy...) 2. if your screen is 800x600, I believe you should be able to get 16b with 1MB video ram possibly the trick might be not to specify the amount of ram you have in your config -I believe you did specify it(?)- because with some setups the graphic card "steals" some of the main ram in order to obtain a better color depth...
