Hi Faisal

Yes, I upgraded using Xinstall.sh and also tried the new binaries from Suse
doing it manually per their instructions, then back again. Seems if I do the
Suse install, gui login works, if I do the Xinstall.sh, it does not,
however, with the Suse install, agp is broken.

I could not find any of those directories under /etc/X11/gdm, guess it is
because I am running KDE.

Hello Art,

Did you upgrade by downloading the binaries and using the
Xinstall.sh shell?

If the answer is yes, then you are facing the same problem I
had.

I used the gdm to log into Gnome. After the X upgrade, my gdm &
GNome were gone and replaced with xdm and a different window
manager.

If this is the case, there are 2 solutions:
 (1) reinstall the new X using the Xinstall.sh and when you are
     asked questions choose the deafult (ususally is n).

 (2) go to /etc/X11 and edit the files in the directory of your

     favorite display manager (under sessions).
     For example, I use Gnome and gdm, so I go to /etc/X11/gdm
     then I go to sessions dierectory. Under it, you will find
     choices for window managers (Default, Gnome, KDE, etc)
     Each of these is a small text files that contains commands
     to start the appropriate wm.
        Gnome -> exec gnome-session
        KDE   -> exec kde
        Defauult -> exec gnome-session OR exec kde OR whatever

      IMPORTATNT: make sure that Defualt has the correct command

      that will start your favorite wm.

I hope this kinda helps :-)

Faisal
