It's not a stupid question, but apparently it's a difficult question. Does it work with a single head? So far I've found a mga_halmod.c in xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/mga, but apparently that directory doesn't always get built. A few minutes with Google dug up this: http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/2634/2001/7/0/6251132/ in which a certain Andrew Lewis complained of the same problem last July. Perhaps you should try to contact Mr. Lewis and ask him if he was able to resolve it.
