Hello Vic,

I caught your message regarding virtual consoles this eve, and I was just wondering if
you ever found a fix for the problem. I have a RedHat 7.1 unit w/KDE that essentially
is doing the exact same thing. It's really bugging me cause once I've logged onto KDE,
I can never use the V Consoles again. If I need the consoles for something, I must
remember not to log into KDE after booting up cause if I do that, the only fix is to
reboot again. RedHat told me I should re-install KDE but jeepers, I'm afraid I'd lose
all of my painstakingly made tweaks and configurations.

By the way, I've got Accelerated X so I'm pretty sure it's KDE as opposed to the X
windowing system.

Thanks if you can help,
Rich Looke

hey,

just upgraded my Xserver from 4.0.3 (I think) to 4.1.0 on SuSE 7.2, it
runs mostly fine (some problems redrawing stuff in kde, but thats pretty
minor), but I can't switch to a virtual console (Crtl-Alt-F#) - screen
flickers a few times, then I get a black screen with a mouse pointer in
the middle, which doesn't respond. I can sometimes Ctl-Alt-F7 back to X,
sometimes it crashes the server. The console getty's are still running, I
just can't access them. killing xdm (and subsequently X) from within an
xterm leaves the computer in the blackscreen with mouse pointer state
(essentially unusable except for network logins). I;m running SuSE 7.2 on
an AMD Athlon 800, S3 Trio3D AGP video, kernel 2.4.4.

ciao,

 vik
