Hi, You're right about an independent font server, RedHat uses xfs (X Font Server if I am not wrong). You're other guess is wrong, "RENDER" extension is an extension to X server. I don't know exactly what it does (maybe it is related to fonts), but as far as I know (I consider myself a newbie as well), it is something that the X server should be compiled with. In other words, as far as I understand, RedHat simply distribute an X server which was not compiled with support for the RENDER extension. I also use RedHat and get the same error.
