Hello, I would really appreciate some help with my Mandrake Linux 8.1 install on my new Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop. The install went smooth up to the final tasks where it requests some information for XFree86, my laptop has a nVidia GeForce2 Go 16MB DDR card and a screen that can support up to 1400x1050 resolution(15"SXGA). When I selected the appropriate settings(nVidia card & generic laptop display capable of 1024x768 @ 70hz) and went to test the configuration I get a screen that looks like every colour under the rainbow all garbled and extremely blurred. I finished the install and chose not to have Xwindows start on boot. So recently I've been reading newsgroups to find a fix to my problem, I managed to get the xwindows to come up with 800x600 resolution, but the mouse is invisible, I did that by going into XFdrake and changed the monitor setting to generic laptop 800x600 @ 60hz. I know that's not the proper screen setting but as is it's the only one that works(I tried many different screen settings). I also downloaded some new nVidia drivers from their homepage and installed them, but that didn't seem to change anything. I read somewhere that the new driver install required a change to some file, it said that I should change "nv" to "nvidia", but I didn't do that because I'm not sure how to. That's all I have for now, I would really like to get going with Linux. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.
