[Newbie]cannot start xwindows

hi, but i couldn't start the  xwindows. i just got the root entry in bash(command prompt) when i typed the stat startx its giving errors like hostname:Host name look up failure. xauth:error in locking authority file /root/.Xauthority(repeated four times) Fatal serevr error:can't read lock file /tmp/.X0-lock xinit:NO such file or directory(err no2)unable to connect to X server xinit:No such process(err no3)Server Error xauth:error in locking authority file/root/.Xauthority theses r the ones i'm getting initially before all this another error came like checking swap space failed. & Input OUtput Error like this many errors came which i couldn't read as it was too fast help me out prasad
