Title: Linuxppc login crash
Linuxppc crashes while x is starting.
The screen flashes at me 5 times, then I see a text login with the error below. I can login and enter text commands for about 5 seconds before the process repeats.
According to /var/run/gdm.pid, gdm was already running but seems to have been murdered mysteriously.
If I boot into runlevel 3 and type startx the screen doesnt flash, but I get the following error messages:
...
Using XFree86/Linux keycode handling
- FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect : errno = 111
failed to set default font path 'unix/: -1
Fatal server error:
could not open default font "fixed"
connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)
...
This problem is recurrent, and has appeared under Linux-ppc's 2.2.18-4hpmac kernel and a 2.2.20 kernel I compiled myself. Until now, I have had to reinstall Linux completely about 5 times - I'd really appreciate some help.
I have a Powermac G4 running Linux-ppc 2000Q4 with a 2.2.20 kernel and an ATI Rage Pro Card.
Thanks,
JamesD
