Hi,
I'm running an older version of Linux Slackware Version 2.2.6 on an
older Micron i686 computer. This computer has a ATI Xpert128 video card
with 16MB of video RAM. This video card uses a PCI slot in the
motherboard. I've been trying to configure the version of X which came
with the original Slackware diskettes. This XFree86 version is 3.3.3.1.
I have tried different servers and even tried to download a newer
version of XFree86(4.0) but with no success. When I looked through the
documentation for the driver support for the XFree86 4.0 version it had
a driver for this ATI Xpert128 card but it was reported to work only
with a AGP slot. Does anyone know if I can download a newer version of
XFree86 (example 4.2) that will be compatible with this PCI Xpert128?
Also will it be compatible with my current Linux OS kernel 2.2.6. I
wanted to stay with the current OS kernel because it supports booting
from a floppy drive.
My most recent attempt at configuring XFree86 is attached. I used a
XF86_SVGA server. When I try to run it I get a lockup and a black
screen.
If there is any help out there such as a newer version which will run
with this card I will need some help on installing and configuration.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
