You are not giving us much info. A post of your XF86Config-4 might help. Knowing which 
card you
have also...
I can try to guess:
do you have 
        Load  "dri"             # Direct rendering infrastructure
in your section module

do you also have 
Section "DRI"
        Mode 0666
EndSection

If you are using the vesa driver, it is unaccelerated...
