I personally have only one resolution in my modes line, that way I am not bothered by 
these
problems. However, if you want to keep them all then the first one should be the 
default, change
the order accordingly and it should do.
By the way, why do I have only one? Because, at least on my mobo, X selects the 
largest resolution
as the virtual resolution and with any other resolution I must pan to get to the part 
of the
window which are not showing on the display...
