your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 Screen section should look something like this:

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "AtiRage"
    Monitor "SAMSUNG M"
    DefaultDepth 16

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 16
        Modes "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
"640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
EndSection

just put in the Modes line the resolution you want first, followed by any
other you
may want. The one that matters is the one that is called from
"DefaultDepth".

cheers,
Arturo

Subject: [Newbie]Default Video Mode

I recently installed XFree86 on my machine at home. When I power the machine
on the login screen in "zoomed" up and I have to press the Cntrl-Alt-+
sequence to cycxle through the various video modes until I get the one that
works. What do I have to do to preset the video mode that I want?

Thanks
Bruce
